Here is what I found.Īdded features include a "layers" function and preselected color themes furthermore, toggling back and forth between projects is simple and straightforward. Can users make a finished drawing, or only produce a sketch?Ĭriteria in hand, I set out to test the apps, starting with Illustrator Draw. How does the drawing experience compare to traditional sketching?Ĥ. Does the app include a variety of functions?ģ. Someone who is accustomed to using these ancillary tools or who regularly draws in a digital format may have a different experience than I did. As an iPhone user, I chose to test Adobe Illustrator Draw and Autodesk SketchBook since both come highly rated by users and are iPhone compatible.īefore I delve into my digital drawing escapade, I must first disclose that I am a novice when it comes to digital drawing and therefore do not own any digital drawing tools such as stylus or touchpad. In order to test the applicability of digital drawing apps as a potential audience engagement activity in museums, I decided to do a side-by-side comparison of two drawing apps. I would highly recommend that you master the pen tool as soon as possible. It is a very valuable tool to know, and I'm sure you will learn to love it. After learning to use it, however, I use it just as much as photoshop. Like you, I used photoshop exclusively and didn't really understand illustrator. I have 0 drawing skills but work with illustrator almost every day. Some things are best done in Photoshop, and some things are best done in Illustrator. This means you can scale the images as large as you want or as small as you want and there will be no 'jagginess' because vector graphics aren't made from pixels. The main benefit of using illustrator vs photoshop is that illustrator creates vector graphics. Just like you don't need "drawing skills" to use Photoshop. You do not need "drawing skills" to use Illustrator!
